Welcome to the Little Rapids Program!

We are excited to offer a team experience for our newest and most-beginner swimmers (ages 3-6). Please see the guidelines below, and if you have any questions prior to registering, please contact team council reps at [email protected].

**Please Note: The Little Rapids program (ages 4-6) is FULL for the 2026 season. We are not able to accept any more Littles registrations at this time. If you would like to be placed on the waitlist, please email [email protected].**

    Who are the Little Rapids?

The Little Rapids are our newest swimming friends – swimmers who need skills and confidence-building help to learn how to safely swim unassisted in the regular team practice. We have fabulous coaches that will work on building basic swimming and confidence skills. Our hope is that by the end of the regular season, many of our littles will be moving up to the regular swim lanes with the “big” kids.

    Where do they practice?

They will practice in the shallow end with Assistant and Junior Coaches (and maybe even the help of some of our most responsible middle-school teammates).

    When are practices?

Practices are typically Monday-Thursdays for 30 minutes a session during the 10yrs & Under practice hour. (Our very first Little Rapids Practice, however, will be held on Tuesday, May 12th). Practices will be from 4:00-5:00pm beginning May 12th, and will switch to mornings only on Thursday, May 21st.

    Additional Information

We will hold Bubble Heats at the beginning of at least one of our home swim meets for any little swimmers on either team that would like to swim assisted by a coach or volunteer to show off their hard work! More information will be provided closer to those dates.

We do ask that all of our parents volunteer at swim meets throughout the season – our program and our swim meets are entirely volunteer-run. Our greatest needs will be for the home meets, but we also need volunteers for the 3 away meets and a variety of other things behind the scenes. You can find more details about volunteer opportunities in the registration information and in the Volunteer 101 section of this website.

Important things to Keep in Mind

    1. Your swimmer(s) must be potty-trained and not needing swim diapers to participate. River Oak has a strict no swim diaper policy for the main pool. (Fecal contamination incidents may also incur a $200 emergency cleaning fee from the pool management company).
    2. Your swimmer should be comfortable with putting their face in the water and should also be able to listen to and follow basic directions from coaches and helpers.
    3. We do require that a parent/guardian stays on deck during the littles practice (no dropping off).
