    Swim Meet FAQs

    What is a swim meet?

A swim meet is a competition against another Gwinnett County summer swim team. There are races or “events” for all four strokes plus relays for all age groups.

    When are swim meets?

We have 5 swim meets for the 2025 season. They will be held weekly on either Tuesday or Thursday evenings beginning May 29th.  Swimmers will arrive at the meet location typically between 4:45-5:15pm for warm-ups.  Competition starts at 6:00pm, and our meets typically last 2.5-3 hours.

    Where are swim meets?

Some swim meets will be at our home pool (River Oak), and some swim meets will be at other local pools. Information and addresses for each meet can be found under the “Swim Meets” tab on this website.

What events can my child swim in a swim meet?

If your swimmer can swim the length of the pool unassisted, they can sign up for up to 3 individual events per meet and will also have a chance to swim in relays throughout the season. Events may be 25m (1 lap or from one end of the pool to the other), 50m (2 laps or starting and finishing from the same end of the pool), or 100m (4 laps).

Events, like freestyle and backstroke, can have multiple heats of swimmers. Each heat will contain up to 6 swimmers at a time; the number of heats per event depends on how many swimmers signed up for that event. Most pools we swim have 6 lanes and will swim up to 6 swimmers per heat of each event.

Individual events for swimmers 10 years old & under (as of 6/1/24):

    25m Freestyle
    50m Freestyle
    25m Backstroke
    25m Breaststroke
    25m Butterfly
100m Individual Medley (1 lap each of backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle)

Individual events for swimmers 11-18 years old (as of 6/1/24):

    50m Freestyle
    100m Freestyle
    50m Backstroke
    50m Breaststroke
    50m Butterfly
100m Individual Medley (1 lap each of backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle)
